be on your way
I had a dream where I watched you go to the mountains
I stayed home by the fire to write
You were excited
I was content
Now your face is lighting up my screen, sleepy and smiling
So close and so warm my body forgets it’s not flesh
The drops start falling on the metal roof to the sound of your breath
Like the rain after a long drought you said
I wonder if its even been that long
Time moves strangely these days
You lay on the bed and your body is still the map that motions me to unmoor
But the moments between these moments stretch out without horizon
I spout words of sacredness, singularities and spacetime
I re-use tired old metaphors about past lovers
And you wonder if this is just another tug of the same of old tide
My heart replies with words I don’t know how to speak yet - a new language I’m trying to learn
We listen to the start of the first song and it haunts me with its sentiments
I won’t hold you back
Time throws us along
And there is never just one human
That the heart should lone belong
Maybe she’s right
Maybe I’m foolish
But often when I look into your eyes the whole world shrinks into just you and I
The thunder rolls in outside
And I imagine you alone on that mountaintop
Listening to the rumbles of the glacial breaks below
We speak of time being deep and rich
Moving, shifting
Inch by inch
The crusts of the world taking millennia to form
Silt that drifts for decades
Layers of rocks built from stars and stone
So what is time?
When we live so briefly yet it can stand so still
If a day can blink by in a second
And a week can feel like a year
What will three months be?
Maybe just a moment of shifting ice within the deep time of a life
So go, take all the time you need and more
Be on your way
Because darling it’s alright
It’s alright to be alone
I won’t hold you back
And you won’t hold me back
And if you make it back to this blue and pink ceiling
Come and find me
Maybe we can reconstruct the scene
I have a feeling that we’ll repeat this evening
So, be on your way
Be on your way
